SUMMARY:Leveraging a Crisis to Advance Wellbeing- Australian Fire Recovery
DESCRIPTION:Megafire events are becoming increasingly frequent in California and around the world. To reflect on the recovery process\, we ask: \n\nHow can we as a global community learn from one another’s recovery efforts to build local to global resilience?\nWhat data helps us steer into healthier choices during recovery?\nHow can we include the community into the recovery process?\n\nAfter the devastating 2019-20 Black Summer Bushfires in Australia\, Bega Valley Data Collective (BVDC) created a community empowerment process and set parameters for data collection that drove amazing results. April Merrick and Tim Whitaker from Bega Valley Data Collective will share their purpose and the metrics and outcomes with us and answer your questions about how they might apply to our local recovery efforts. BVDC is a volunteer-based\, not-for-profit association with the mission to empower the community to thrive through a wellbeing framework based on collaboration\, data and action. \nIn addition\, Carolyn Ardler and April from the Foundation for Regional & Rural Renewal will share their experiences of how funding organisations can work with Not-for-Profit organisations or community groups to ensure they can not only continue to support their communities after disasters but also be financially sustainable. FRRR is a not-for-profit organisation that connect common purposes and funding from government\, business and philanthropy with the genuine local needs of rural people and places. \nThis session will be hosted by longtime WEAll CA Partner Catalina Langen of Civic Wellbeing Partners and Santa Monica Bay Area Human Relations Council. \nTo join us on Tuesday\, July 8th at 4pm Pacific\, please sign up below \nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfccOVCLZGKVZGHJ5QsMFINETdoswn53-9rR05xdVLZYlmh_w/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=113715013713551266073 \nLinks to the presenters \nhttps://www.begavalleydata.com.au/ \nhttps://www.frrr.org.au
