SUMMARY:Local Spotlight – Complete Neighborhoods in Hayward
DESCRIPTION:When you imagine your ideal future\, what does your neighborhood look like?   Is it green?  Are the people friendly?   Do you have to struggle through lots of traffic to get your errands done? \nThe Complete Neighborhoods movement is appealing because almost everything you need is within walking distance and the community has the feel of a village where people support each other and want to spend time with each other. \nDidacus Ramos has been a community leader in Hayward for 20 years\, working on affordable housing\, public banking and many other civic projects. \nHis latest initiative\, Complete Neighborhoods\, is a part of the Strong Towns project. \nJoin us on Thursday\, April 24 at 10am to learn more about this project and to inquire how you can replicate some of this in your community. \nSign up HERE \n

SUMMARY:Local Leaders Monthly Forum
DESCRIPTION:We are creating an “invite” only monthly meeting for people who are working to create Wellbeing Economies in their local community. \nThe idea behind making it invite only\, is to create a space that will connect you with other change-makers working on Wellbeing Economy initiatives across California. We will exchange ideas and discuss challenges specific to growing local wellbeing economy initiatives in a local area. \nOur first meeting will be Tuesday\, April 1 from 2 to 3pm with a special focus on addressing the obstacles that our Wellbeing Economy projects face. Through an open discussion and co-creation session\, we’ll explore shared challenges and potential solutions to support each other’s work. \nThe group will meet for an hour once a month so that they can get to know each other and the projects to provide continuity and continuing support. \nIf you think this could be a good fit for you\, please fill out this short form \n

SUMMARY:Policy Discussion - The Future of Work
DESCRIPTION:In February\, we had invigorating discussions on Policy Platform strategies. (When you register\, you will get access to those notes). \nThis month\, we will begin our series of deep dives. Our first topic is “The Future of Work”. \nIf we are pursuing a long term strategy towards a society of health\, wellbeing and equity\, what is our ideal outcome for “jobs”? Shooting for fair wages\, benefits and working conditions should be the minimum. Let’s set the end goal even higher. \nIs a “jobs” guarantee the standard? What if automation eliminates whole sectors? Is Employee Ownership the standard? What other models exist? Or could exist? \nOur discussion will center around these questions. We invite you to bring examples of policies or practices that you admire. Our brainstorm and sharing is intended to shift our collective thinking about what is possible in a future wellbeing economy. \nYou are invited to contribute at either 10am Pacific or 4pm Pacific. \nSign up HERE \nOur updated Platform is here.

SUMMARY:Setting a Vision for the Future - Narrative Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Our theme for 2025 is how to build winning Narrative Strategies. \nThis month we are focused on clarifying our Vision of the beautiful future we would like to create together. \nOur morning session (10am) will be led by Debilyn Molineaux of AmericanFuture.us. Debilyn has been a leader in the civic engagement field and her new project is aimed at helping people articulate the future they would like to live into. \nOur afternoon session (4pm) we will do a slightly different process with the same aim. Helping people give voice to their desired future. \nWe will produce a final “Vision Statement” from all of our collective voices. This will go into the narrative map we have been constructing. \nThe workshop is open to everyone even if you have not participated in prior sessions. The map and meeting summaries will be included when you RSVP. \nWe have also booked several Narrative experts as part of this series: \n\nMarch 20 – Akira Nakahara of Imperative 21\nApril 10 – Jasmine Banks of UnKoch My Campus\nJune 12 – David Ballard of Groundwork Collaborative\nJoin us Tuesday\, March 18 at 10 am or 4pm Pacific\n\nSign Up HERE

SUMMARY:Developing a Wellbeing Economy Platform
DESCRIPTION:One of our group projects for 2025\, is to create a Policy Platform. \nFrom a Process perspective\, we want to accomplish multiple goals: \n\nSpur dialogue across our community about what issues are most pressing\nDig into specific policy options and deepen collective knowledge\nHave discussion about where and how disagree with the hopes of finding common ground\n\nFrom an Outcomes perspective\, we hope a unifying platform will allow us to: \n\nGo to current local and state legislators with a series of requests\nMake proposals to Attorney Generals about how they can pursue equity\nUse joint actions to demonstrate how many people support these policies\n\nThis process began at a community session in 2024.  We took the notes from that session and turned it into a first draft for comment.  You can see the first draft here and the running feedback on that draft here    If you would like to submit comments in advance of this session\, please email them to connect@weallcalifornia.org \nWe will work on a revised draft and circulate that to people signed up for this community feedback session. \nIf policy is what lights you up\, we encourage you to join us. We welcome everyone\, especially those looking to learn more about specific policy strategies. \nOver the course of 2025\, we will host a series of deep dives into each of the Platform “planks” to create the detail.  This session will be focused on the Introduction\, tone and what “planks” to include. \nJoin us on Tue Feb 25 at either 10am or 4pm Pacific for our Platform discussions. \nSIGN UP HERE

SUMMARY:Create a Local Support System for Coops
DESCRIPTION:Cooperatives are essential for creating more equitable communities. They uplift workers\, create a fairer economy\, and build community wealth and power. For cooperatives to grow and thrive\, they need a supportive and connected ecosystem that includes established practitioners\, values-aligned technical assistance and financing providers\, and political\, philanthropic\, and institutional investment. \nAt this session\, we will look at the different ways that local leaders are creating robust cooperative ecosystems to meet critical community needs. \nWe are joined by Zen Trenholm\, Senior Director of Employee Ownership Cities and Policy from the Democracy at Work Institute (https://institute.coop/) to share their hands-on experience helping communities develop the language\, tools\, and infrastructure to build and scale worker ownership. \nSign up HERE

SUMMARY:Book Club - The Serviceberry
DESCRIPTION:The first Thursday of each month\, we will read and discuss one chapter of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s excellent new book – The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World \nThe book is beautifully written and feels so important to the discussion of envisioning and co-creating a healthier world. One of our main themes for 2025 is how do we create the language and stories that help more people believe such a world is viable. \nThe chapters are relatively short\, so we hope you will read (or reread the chapter) so it is fresh in your mind. \nOn Thursday\, Feb 6 at 630pm\, we will discuss the first chapter. \nSign up HERE \n  \nPlease consider buying it from Abe Books or a local\, independent bookseller. \nhttps://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=32072116536 \n

SUMMARY:Narrative Workshop
DESCRIPTION:An important part of creating a society centered around Wellbeing is helping others to see the possibilities and to choose actions that move us collectively in that direction.  For all the progress we make\, it seems that we aren’t winning as much as we hoped. \nAs part of our series on Wellbeing messaging and narratives\, let’s dig into the other competing narratives and why they work so well. \nThis group discussion will be focused on four questions \n\nWhat are the existing narratives that undermine a Wellbeing Economy message\nWhat tactics are being used to perpetuate those narratives\nWhat should we learn from the success of these tactics\nWhat else would the group like to learn about messaging in 2025\n\nOur goal is to create a place where we can individually and collectively improve our ability to lead change\, be more persuasive and identify messaging that works. \nIf you missed our first workshop on how to craft a Wellbeing Narrative\, you can find the recording on our YouTube channel which also has a link to the original study the session was based on. \nWe are holding two sessions – one for morning people and one for afternoon people. \nYou can sign up for 9am or 4pm HERE

SUMMARY:Monthly Community Connection
DESCRIPTION:Our last community connection of 2024 was enriching.  An attendee described it as cathartic. \nThe feedback we received is that people want a community to discuss how we create a society of wellbeing and to support each other through the emotional ripples of this work. \nEach month we will have at least one connection session.  The next question is finding times that work for our community.   We have scheduled two sessions on January 14th to see how these times work for you. \nIf you can’t make either and want to lobby us for a different day or time\, email us at connect @weallcalifornia.org. \nTuesday\, Jan 14 at either 10am or 4pm \nSign up here \n  \n
