SUMMARY:Vermont Prosperity Project
DESCRIPTION:Our new series will spotlight networks that are working to create Wellbeing Economies in their states. \nEach session in this webinar series will spotlight one state network as they share their vision for progress\, highlight the economic transformations they are working toward\, and the key actors involved in driving change. \nThis is an opportunity for participants to learn directly from those on the ground\, hearing about strategies\, successes\, and lessons learned. The conversations will not only explore the “what” of each network’s work\, but also the “how” behind building an economy designed to serve people and the planet. \nAt this gathering\, we will hear from Jessica Savage and Ellen Kahler from the Vermont Prosperity Project. \nThe Vermont Prosperity Project is a collaborative\, emergent initiative that works to seed definitions of prosperity and progress rooted in social and ecological wellbeing by asking the question: what makes for a good life?  Our Steering Wheel Team facilitates creative conversations across Vermont about our economy and the beliefs\, values\, and aspirations that shape and reshape it. Our efforts are aimed at demystifying and expanding how we think about the economy\, exploring strategies within reach to transform our economy\, and learning how Vermonters are practicing those strategies now. \nJessica Savage is the Director of Programs and Strategic Initiatives at the Vermont Council on Rural Development (VCRD)  \nEllen Kahler is the Executive Director of the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund (VSJF). \nJoin us October 14th at 11am Pacific/ 2 Eastern \nLater in this series we will hear from: \n\nPuerto Rico Social Solidarity Network – Dec 9\nĀina Aloha Economic Futures\nWashington Economic Justice Alliance & People’s Economy Lab\n\nTo sign up for the event\, please click HERE \n

SUMMARY:STAR Voting vs Ranked Choice Voting
DESCRIPTION:Our partner\, Good Gov LA\, brings together people interested in healthier democracy.  There are many techniques we can use for this in Los Angeles\, including public funding for elections\,  participatory budgeting and others. \nOn October 15\, we will focus on how we can upgrade the voting system at its root. \nThe “first past the post” voting system we are all familiar with has inherent flaws which lead to more polarized races\, strategic voting by voters rather than expressing their true preference\, and often result in the election of a representative who the majority of voters don’t support. \nMany cities and states are looking to replace traditional voting with methods that encourage honest voting\, allow more competitive candidates to run\, promote positive campaigns and most importantly\, elect candidates that actually represent the will of the people. \nTwo of the methods gaining traction to achieve these results are  Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) and STAR Voting \nAt this event\, we will hear presentations from both STAR and RCV champions and then we will open it up for questions from the audience. \nWe welcome anyone interested in improving the health of our democracy. \nThis event is hosted by Good Gov LA\, a coalition of groups and individuals working toward better democracy. \nSpeakers \nSteve Chessin is the President of Californians for Electoral Reform.  https://cfer.org/ \nArend Castelein is the chair of the Los Angeles chapter of Equal Vote. He also has a background in software engineering\, and has led development of Equal Vote’s web applications\, including bettervoting.com and rcvchangedalaska.com . \nSign up HERE
