Narrative Expert Series – Best Practices for Leveraging Current Economic Fights

Groundwork Collaborative fights to change economic policy and narratives in order to build public power, break up concentrations of private power, and deliver true opportunity and prosperity for all.

Groundwork’s David Ballard focuses on Narrative Strategies and will share some of his expertise and tools to help us craft effective messaging on the economy. David will use the fight against the Republican tax bill to illustrate how to put these ideas into practice and:

  • Ensure our communications empower our audiences
  • Define what constitutes a winning narrative
  • Effectively talk about the people and institutions breaking our economy

After the presentation, our community will have plenty of time to ask David specifics about these tips and how they might be leveraged for your work.

Groundwork deploys economic research, narrative change, and strategic partnerships to help build an economy that works for all.

Narrative Series – Tested ways to build support for Wellbeing Economies

On Thursday, August 9th at 9am Pacific, we will be joined by Frances Rayner – Communications and Narratives Co-Lead from the global Wellbeing Economy Alliance to share some key insights from recent communications research.

Frances looked at more than 20 studies done on what messaging is most effective to help people think about the economy as something we can redesign in the name of equity and the environment. In this session she’ll share seven key takeaways you can implement in your work.

Frances came to the Global Team after working with the WEAll Scotland team to put the Wellbeing Economy on the national agenda. Prior to that she helped a range of non-profit organisations in Scotland secure policy changes on climate and income inequality through public campaigns.

Setting a Vision for the Future – Narrative Workshop

Our theme for 2025 is how to build winning Narrative Strategies.

This month we are focused on clarifying our Vision of the beautiful future we would like to create together.

Our morning session (10am) will be led by Debilyn Molineaux of AmericanFuture.us. Debilyn has been a leader in the civic engagement field and her new project is aimed at helping people articulate the future they would like to live into.

Our afternoon session (4pm) we will do a slightly different process with the same aim. Helping people give voice to their desired future.

We will produce a final “Vision Statement” from all of our collective voices. This will go into the narrative map we have been constructing.

The workshop is open to everyone even if you have not participated in prior sessions. The map and meeting summaries will be included when you RSVP.

We have also booked several Narrative experts as part of this series:

  • March 20 – Akira Nakahara of Imperative 21
  • April 10 – Jasmine Banks of UnKoch My Campus
  • June 12 – David Ballard of Groundwork Collaborative
