Can we pass Future Generations Legislation?

September 8 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm PDT

What if our governments were required to consider the needs of not only now, but the needs of those seven generations further?

The Seventh Generation Principle is based on an ancient Haudenosaunee philosophy that the decisions we make today should result in a sustainable world seven generations into the future. Today, advocates for Future Generations policy seek to enshrine that belief in today’s institutions.

Many WEAll hubs are working to pass Future Generations legislation. Wales passed the first law on this principle. San Mateo County in California passed a Future Generations law last year.

  • Could more cities in California adopt this legislation? Could the State?
  • Where do Future Generations laws fall short?
  • The San Mateo model has prioritized youth participation in the process.  How could we do the same?

This discussion will be an opportunity for our community to gather and share.

Jessie Green will start us off on some background on Future Generations work and then we will move into group discussion about the future of Future Generations!

This discussion will not be recorded.
